I got this item just a few days ago. I have had 2 other vacuums in the years I’ve been out on my own. The fist time I vacummed (keep in mind I vacuumed with my ancient one the day before) I had AT LEAST two full canisters of dirt, pet hair, and who else knows. I like this vacuum. I like the retractabble cord. Very well-located for me!! I was surprised how well the routine was for the price I had payed. So far, so excellent!

My 5 year ancient son even likes the new vacuum after getting over his fears of the noise. Not as loud as my ancient, one yet, does has noise like most do. Very simple to place together. Didn’t even need the instructions!!

I really like this vacuum cleaner, it does the job well. It’s a fantastic value for the low cost. I like that I don’t have a bag to keep an eye on or change. My favorite part is the retractable cord, no more wrapping up the cord around the handle! The only thing I don’t like is that it’s a bit heavy, but my 11 yr ancient still has no distress with it.

It is not honest for me to slam this vacuum, since I did not keep it for more than one day. There were several things I didn’t like. The roller does not stop moving even when you are using the hose. I did not find it “pulling me around my house” like some people wrote in their reviews. I vacuumed an entire floor of my house and only a handful of dirt was sucked up. Either I got a lemon or it was crummy, so I sent it back.

Finally A Vacuum worth the price

I Brought this vacuum a few month ago, and after going though 2 vacuums in a small period of time my new Hoover is still cleans fantastic. I have had no problems or complants and it is very simple to clean the filter and the auto rewind is a fantastic way to store the cord. My advise if your going to buy a vacuum remember you get what you pay for and this one is worth the price.

I spent a lot of time on Amazon and other websites trying to find a fantastic working vacuum. I am very pleased I bought the Hoover 5507-900 Elite Bagless Upright Vacuum cleaner. For the past few months I’ve used it several times and it still picks up all the dirt and dog hair. I have no complaints about this vacuum. I just hope it lasts a long time. Fantastic buy for apartments. It’s light and doesn’t make too much noise.

After searching for the right vacuum to fit my needs, this hoover is doing the job so far. Really like the ease of emptying the container when full and not having to touch the dirt and clean filter everytime. Still like not having to use bags. Excellent product. Like the rewind option for the cord.

Cliche as it may be, this vacuum sucks. HARD. I like it – such a giant improvement over my previous canister Electrolux hand-me-down that cost $1000 fifteen years ago, all for the low, low price of under a hundred bucks, including shipping. Color me impressed.

    The excellent:

    - Bagless. The dust holder removes easily, and empties out of the BOTTOM, so the dust and dirt and hair goes directly into the trash. Why didn’t someone reckon of this sooner?

    - Powerful. I did a once through with the Electrolux first, got some stuff, then went through my apartment with the Hoover. It found dirt the electrolux couldn’t have after 50 passes.

    - Floor settings. We have concrete floors, and this did a spectacular job on the hard surface. It also cleaned the dickens out of the carpet. Most vacuums just can’t.

    - It’s light. It doesn’t weigh much, rolls easily, and is simple for me and my girlfriend to both go around the apartment. A far weep from our previous model.

    - Lifetime filter. No changing the filter, ever. Brilliant.

    - Rewinding cord. It’s super long, and rewinds very quickly. Much better than wrapping it around the handle like the ancient model. Fantastic stuff, and powerful.

    The terrible:

    - The power button is in an awkward place. It’s down low, but not at foot level. Weird.

In all, for the price, this is one of the best vacuums out there. I’ve owned several different makes and models, and this one has better features, cleans better, and is simpler to empty than any of them. I highly recommend.

I like this vacuum. It has excellent suction and the hand tools work fantastic for getting pet hair off the couch. The only problem was that the belt broke only after a couple of uses. I bought a new belt cheap on amazon and the vacuum is working well again. We’ll see how long it lasts.

I also like where the power button is located, so you just have to tap it with your foot. Overall it is a pretty excellent vacuum for the price.

Be careful if you buy this product. The price is decent, but you have to keep it moving or it could cause hurt to flooring. I luckily read about this issue from a reviewer who hurt the floor when letting the vacuum sit on unprotecting flooring while using the frills. I vacuumed new but low-priced carpeting with it and the amount of carpet fibers in the container blew my mind. Even at the highest setting. It is pretty heavy, and if you leave it sit for more than 10-15 seconds on a single spot it could cause hurt. Use the highest setting on carpeting and keep it moving.

For the price, this is a fantastic small vacuum cleaner. Just vacuumed a day before receiving this and you wouldn’t believe what it pulled up, and I’m not talking about the nap it raised in the carpet! I like the bagless feature and don’t have to worry any longer if I run out of bags. Also, like the retractable cord. I’d highly recommend this cleaner.

The suction is as excellent as my friends’ Dysons and cost 1/5th the price. The carpet pile feels like it was when the house was first bought 7 years ago and it’s fantastic to see what the previous vacuums missed in the canister.

    Excellent:

    - suction

    - adjustable agitator

    - auto rewind cord

    Not-So-Excellent:

    - occasionally hair/fur needs help out of the canister

    - loud

    - heavy-ish

I did not buy from amazon, but i used the reviews to choose on the vacuum i wanted, so i should give back, right? [...]. The “one star” part was the wait, 28 days!! But this vacuum is so awesome, it was worth it. i can’t believe how much dirt was in the canister after only one pass on my rug (granted, i was without a vacuum for 28 days and have 3 dogs!). it has some awesome on-board tools, the rewind feature i like. it is way more powerful than my fantom fury, which i paid a pretty penny for, and in its defense did last for probably over 10 years (i lost count). the negatives are the cord is a small shorter than i would like, and it comes out toward the floor so i am always tripping and mowing over it. the hose for attachments is way small, but overall i am loving this vacuum for the fantastic sucking power. oh, and for the cleanable filter and the ease of emptying the canister.

I’ve used this hoover for one month and it works pretty well. Simple to use and all the parts work fine. The filters are effective. A small bit stiff and heavy, but I never had a huge hoover like this, so it might be normal. It doesn’t recline too much. I recommend it. Excellent deal for the price.

    My best buy
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I recently went into a fully carpeted apartment and was having a tough time deciding which vacuum cleaner to buy. Me and my wife spent a lot of time researching which product was best for us when we chanced upon this wonderful item on Amazon. Now I have not used a lot of vacuum cleaners in the past so I did not have a lot of expectations but the Hoover 5507-900 model has beyond doubt raised my bar a lot.

Its extremely simple to use, and contrary to what I have heard about most vacuum cleaners, this one can be manoevred with ease and DOES NOT feel heavy at all. I thought I had a relatively clean carpet before I ran this on my floor, but the dirt this piece picked up was a dreadfully pleasant revelation. The best feature about this product is the Auto-Rewind (nothing extremely fancy, just a spring mechanism which can be activated with a simple push of a button and the power cord auto rewinds and fits into cord holder invisible from view). I read a review from someone saying that he will never buy another vacuum cleaner without this feature and I now know why.

Cleaning the canister has been very simple too and the pet hair and other attachments are very useful too.

    Overall a fantastic buy !

The suction is quite powerful, handle very nicely, perfect for someone my size (5′2″). I wish the electrical cord was a bit longer. I am very pleased with my Hoover (the previous vacuum had been a Dyson). It would’ve been nice if the vacuum had arrived sooner than the 13 days!

    Surprisingly Fantastic Reasonably priced Vacuum!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The number one factor when buying anything for me is VALUE. The cost + the product’s quality. This sassy red vacuum was fantastic at cleaning both my hardwood and the carpet, it has settings to accommodate both. The auto-rewind works fantastic, but I can see how the mechanism would break if you aren’t gentle with it. It picked up the most minute dirt particles that really grossed me out, and it picked up the tufts of kitty hair that tends to get matted into the carpet. For the cost around $100, this vacuum has incredible value. And I’m so pleased with it so far.

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Only had this vacuum cleaner for 1 month, used it several times and have been emptying the dust canister after each use as others have suggested. Have to admit I derive a secret pleasure to seeing the dust swirl around in the canister. It is very powerful! It works fine on both carpeting and hardwood floors (just remember to adjust the vacuum height). For sanitary reasons, I really wanted a dust canister that I could wash and I be with you I can wash the “lifetime filter” as well though I haven’t yet done so. I know this retails for about $120, but got it for about $90, with free shipping from Amazon. Will report back should I encounter any problems.

After trying many vacuum cleaners we found a keeper! This vacuum is simple to maneuver, picks up dirt (my carpets look better than ever), and removes cat hair with ease. It isn’t frivolous, yet it isn’t too hard to carry up stairs. The filter is simple to clean.

    Fantastic vacuum for the price
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
    This is a fantastic product!

Talk about SUCTION POWER, this vacuum has plenty of it! I also use the bonus gear that the vacuum came with to vacuum the interior of my car, WHIC IS FANTASTIC!!!! Emptying the vacuum is also a breeze with a click of a bottom! No bags to mess with!

Additionally, with another push of a button, the cord retracts all by itself, and that is an awesome convenience. With my ancient vacuum, I had to perform that task manually (take care of the annoying cord after each use!!! what a pain!!!), which was too much hassle and sometimes just for that reason I would not use my ancient vacuum …

This vacuum will give you everything you are looking for in a vacuum for a fantastic price. Oh yeah! I also like the fact that you can see thru the vacuum, and that is really cool because you know when the dirt container is full. Make sure to empty the container when it’s full if you want this dirt eater to perform at its peak.

Again, Fantastic value for a Fantastic price, you really can’t go incorrect with this machine!!! Huge applause to Hoover!!! Excellent job guys, you got it! you simply gave people what they wanted, and as simple and as logical this concept may sound, many companies out there fail to listen to the consumers and that’s why they go bankrupt or go to Uncle Sam crying and asking for a bailout… – : ) . Maybe Uncle Sam should require the top execs of those looser companies to go back to business school and take Marketing Research 101! – : )

Getting back to the vacuum, I like it and I would recommend it to anyone!!!!

Also, my Best regards to Hoover!!!!

    Your Loyal and Pleased Customer,

    R.E.

    Excellent suction, poor build quality
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought this vacuum cleaner with high hopes based on numerous positive reviews on here. There were a few negative reviews, but I was wishing that I would one of the many lucky ones who got consistently excellent routine and quality. Alas, my hopes were misplaced.

The vac was simple enough to assemble. (Yes, some assembly is required after opening the packaging.) But, I was very skeptical about the one long screw holding the handle to the body. Rumor has it that, that screw does its job as the design makes sure that there are other parts which take the bulk of the load and not the screw. There is the issue that some folks may fortuitously over-tighten the screw and strip the plastic threads inside the body, but maybe, not a huge one.

What soured my taste was the ‘carpet height adjustment knob’. I had barely used the vac for 7-8 times so far when one day the knob simply stopped working. There was no unintentional over turn or stepping on or rough usage at all. It simply just chose not to work.

The vac still works with excellent suction on the rugs. But, without the knob working, it doesn’t do a excellent job on the vinyl floors in the bathrooms. To reckon I just spent a 100 bucks on this thing which became crippled in less than 10 uses. My ancient $65 Bissell still has its adjustment in perfect working order.

What excellent is the suction when Hoover can’t make their parts work properly? A classic case of a excellent concept poorly executed.

I contacted Hoover regarding the issue and instead of offering a return or exchange, I was directed to a repair shop. Looks like Hoover has no concept of customer service. I would not recommend anyone buying Hoover products ever again. I am regretting my choice of buying this vac.

    not a terrible deal
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I shopped around for the best vacuum deal and for the money, this is the best. It sucks. Which is a excellent thing. The only issue is you need to adjust the carpet level knob when going to a different length rug pile even if the change is small but this is simple enough to do. I like the fact that all switches and controls are foot operated (except the pile length knob), so there’s not a lot of bending over. I read some reviews that complained about dust when emptying the hopper but that seems to be personal work habits. The trap door makes this simple and clean if you use some common sense. I paid $89 through Amazon and found the same machine at Target for &139. Now let’s see if it lasts a few years.

    Low-priced? Yes… Cheap? NO!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Everyone’s skeptical about buying home appliances/products that seem a small too low-priced… I am! Which is why I didn’t get the vacuum that was thirty or so dollars cheaper than this one even though it had more reviews. We are all looking for toughness, quality, lifespan, and routine. The reason I choose this vacuum over the hoover u5140, (which has over a thousand reviews at a 4.5 star rating), is because despite all the rave reviews for it, that vacuum cleaner looked like something you’d find at a flea market.

The Hoover 5507 Elite but, has a much more appealing design that illustrates quality. And these looks are not deceiving…

Assembly is far too simple requiring only one phillips head screw to connect the main handle to the base. This does not take anything away from it’s toughness & once connected & assembled, the vacuum is concrete. The material used for the vacuum is high quality, as is the material used on the hosing. The only issue with the design is that the attachment hose is connected to the vacuum with a rotating grip that can come loose when direction the hose, but it isn’t hard to adapt and does not provide much, if any, frustration.

The routine is exceptional and the suction is above par while vacuuming carpet. I have limited bare floor space in my apt & I use the hose attachment for the tile I do have, so I cannot comment on how the bare floor functions. The attachment operation is perfect and performs as expected. The bagless cylinder is an added bonus and is fulfilling to able to see all of the crap you pulled from your “clean” carpet. The retractable cord is a relief from the annoying alternative and has provided no issue.

I’ve had the vacuum for 2 months now and use it at least once a week over a 800 sq/ft apt. No issues thus far.

Beyond doubt, worth the less than $100 investment for a quality vacuum such as this. Unless you’re an obsessive spender, there is no need to pay $250-$500 for a vacuum cleaner that will probably perform only slightly different than this model.

Fantastic product. I’m loving mine since it does everything I need, without a bag, and the cord zips up with the push of a button (no winding, :)

It has performed as the class says. Emptying isn’t automatically as simple as they say, but if you need it simpler, you need a maid. There is no doubt that I am pleased with my product rather than spending several hundred more for something similar.

    Very satisfactory after nine months
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I make a point of ignoring all reviews of electrical products unless I can be sure the owner has owned them for long enough to really get to know them. None of this “I got it this morning and it’s brilliant” thank you. We have used our Hoover for more than nine months in our 1900 sq ft house with a mixture of polished wood, deep pile and small pile carpet, plus a couple of wool and silk rugs.

The Hoover is simple to use and does a very excellent job of cleaning, especially getting right in to the edges of rooms. It is simple to empty, although it will clog around the filter if you allow the container to get too full. We have a dog who sheds a bit of hair and it always picks this up successfully. As a guide, a normal once a week clean will fill the dust container without the need for it to emptied during use.

Although there are several adjustments for the type of flooring, after a few weeks I just left it in the central position most of the time. It seems to handle all types of flooring very successfully in this position. For an extra special clean, you might want to adjust it.

Here are the main pros and cons:

    Best features:

    - Very reliable

    - Brilliant cleaning quality

    - Simple to empty

    - Excellent range of built-in tools

    - Extension tube pulls out very quickly if you need to switch cleaning modes

    - Fantastic value for money

    - Very simple controls

    - Feels sturdy even though it is mainly plastic

    - Built in headlight

    Negatives:

    - Heavy for those who have to lift it upstairs

    - Extension tube probably too small for doing a flight of stairs

    - Retractable flex is a bit small

    - Possibly too small for homes over 200 sq ft

    …but hey, it’s less than $100.
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This is my first bagless upright, and I have to say that for those of you with pets, this style of vacuum is a must. One of our largest gripes with the ancient bagged equipment is that as the bag filled up, the pet hair (and other debris) starts to start to smell. My wife and I have really started joking that our dog when needs a bath, he starts to get “vacuum-baggy” smelling.

The routine is pretty excellent, it seems to be able to pick up everything that my ancient upright could do. The cord re-wind is another fantastic feature that my ancient one didn’t have. It do have to say that one of my most despised thing to do when vacumming is to wind that cord up again, and this one really takes the hassle out of this part of the chore. One thing I did seem to notice, although I don’t have my ancient vacuum to compare, but I reckon the cord on this one is a touch shorter. I don’t seem to be able to do as many rooms as before before having to re-plug. Not so much of a gripe as an observation.

The largest reason that I deducted two stars as the tool/wand routine of this vacuum. First as others reviewers have mentioned, there is no function to turn off the beater brush when you are using the tools. This is not usually a problem, but you should be careful of where the body of the vacuum is when you are using the wand attachment, since it can make quite a mess of nice rugs or loose items like socks.

The second problem, and much more serious is that the wands don’t have enough suction to get the job done. I normally use this to clean the upholstery on the sofa and curtains and it just doesn’t pick up the dust and debris like it should. It requires nearly twice the time do do the couch than my ancient one.

All that being said, we usually don’t clean the couch as often as the floors and we don’t have any strong allergies the require super-HEPA filtration or anything that the higher end models offer. All in all, this is still a pretty decent vacuum for under $100. I’ve never used a Dyson, but I’m not sure that they are 4 times better than this one and even if they were, I don’t reckon I would need it…unless of course it vacuum itself!

  30. Bob Loblaw on Mon, 21st Sep 2009 3:56 pm

    In a word, incredible.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m a huge skeptic, skeptical of everything but especially all the excellent reviews for the product. It was hard to believe that for about $100 I could get a excellent bagless upright by a name brand company that sorry to say came with a stupid gimmick like the auto rewind feature. I figured if its $100 then about 99% of the cost justification went into producing and designing the gimmick and the rest, like the vacuum part, is tacked on to avoid lawsuits. Make no mistake the largest feature of this vacuum is its ability to clean carpets not rewind its piddly cord. I had been previously vacuuming like mad because I got a new puppy but after using this machine I had to go back and make sure that the Oreck’s roller brush was even really spinning because the Hoover picked up a ludicrous amount of dust and carpet fibers in just one use.

    Cons

-Autorewind is ridiculously useless and cheap. If you’re a guy that knows quality, the second you use it you’re gonna realize its going to the first thing to stop working. Its really a hinderance because to get more length you have to bend down and yank the sucker. I prefer unwinding a coil of power cord manually but thats just me.

-Feels like cheap plastic, everywhere. It doesn’t give you any sense of toughness but everything is plastic these days even the Dysons. Reckon of the variation between a excellent Merck safety razor and a Bic disposable. This is the Bic but with a Merck blade in it and it does an incredible job.

    Pros

    -Bagless

-Simple to take apart and clean the housings for the filter, collection, collection filter.

-Simple to empty the collection bucket, which is quite large by the way.

-Cleans so damn well you cant help but feel like using it every day, especially after the first time you use it.

-It collects very fine dust even from a thick new carpet on the high setting (further from carpet). Even if you don’t like the roller action its hard to deny that this thing has SUCTION.

-$93 shipped. If you break it, lose it or wear it out, its $93. Buyers remorse aint likely with that price tag and this routine.

Vacuum seems to be working fine so far, only had it for a month… Only drawback seen as of yet is the power cord is a bit small – not a major problem, just used to a longer power cord, so now I have to stop and go cord to new outlet to end. Otherwise, seems to be a excellent vacuum.

Hoover Elite Rewind Fantastic For Apartments & Small Homes
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
First of all, the Hoover Elite Rewind Vacuum Cleaner is no Dyson. But, among $100 bagless vacuum cleaners, this model rocks. Its really a very colorful simple machine. And it lets you see much of its inner workings – vital when doing maintenance or repair of the machine itself. The fewer the parts, the simpler to maintain. What is impressive is the ‘lifetime’ HEPA filter which really does its job and is easily reachable behind a red plastic cover. The Hoover Elite Vacuum arrived within a week of ordering it through the ‘free shipment’ option by Amazon in its original box. That’s environmentally smart by reducing the amount of material to be recycled. The only tool needed to assemble the handle onto the vac is a phillips screwdriver to secure the one included screw attaching the handle to the vacuum itself. In putting the Hoover Elite Rewind Bagless Vacuum Cleaner to the test, two rooms with wall-to-wall carpeting were first cleaned using a $100 Bissell bagless electric vacuum cleaner, followed by a steam vac using clear water that picked up a lot of grunge left by the Bissell. After allowing to dry, the Hoover Elite Rewind cleaned the same two wall-to-wall carpets. One would reckon the Hoover wouldn’t have anything left to pick up? Incorrect! The Hoover picked-up a container full of dust left by the other vacuum. And as mentioned, the HEPA filter did a excellent job of preventing even finer dust from getting back into the room. Clean-up is a snap as the dirt container is simple to remove and empty via a bottom flap. But, it gets messy when you try cleaning the filter from the container. Practice taking it apart for cleaning before you use it for the first time, you’ll thank me for the advice. The HEPA filter thankfully stays pretty clean on its own for the most part. The vacuum even includes an ‘air flow indicator’ allowing you to keep tabs on how well the vacuum is working as well when its time to remove its parts to further clean. I’d recommend cleaning the dust container every time you vacuum to keep problems at bay, and cleaning the `cyclone filter after every third or fourth use. One complaint would be that the power cord is too low to initially reach. It could be place at the top of the rewind housing to make it more well-located. But, keep in mind that this is a $100 vacuum cleaner made in China and distributed by Hoover. Therefore, my largest gripe is the machine was not made, or at least assembled in North America – meaning that many fewer jobs are where we need them most. The vacuum includes a pet hair paw with a revolving brush allowing one to clean upholstery using its hose attachment. Make sure you carefully check the box for small parts before tossing it. And make sure to keep both the quick assembly manual and the regular manual in your files. I’m giving it four stars for what it does, and does well within its purpose. Its fantastic for apartments and small homes. And yes, using this vacuum with its HEPA filter will take a lot of dust out of the air – you’ll notice that after its first use. As to medium or larger homes, I’d recommend a Hoover Wind Tunnel model, or one by Dyson. And if possible, a model made or at least assembled in North America.

You get what you pay for

If you have never used another vacuum, you will probably like this. It is on the heavy side. which I wonuldn’t mind, if it worked fantastic. It works OK. The belt broke after 2 uses, but the excellent folks at Hoover include a 2nd belt. Be aware, the hose extends, but there is no hard plastic tube to reach ceilings or corners.

    Outstanding Vacuum
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I looked around quite a bit and then read customer reviews and this vacuum rated very well with most people. After having it for about a month now I can’t believe I didn’t buy one a lot sooner. It works fantastic. I first cleaned my carpet with my ancient vacuum thinking I was doing a excellent job but when I went over it again with the Hoover Elite I couldn’t believe all the dirt and dog hair that my ancient vacuum had missed. I would recommend this vacuum to anyone. The price was low but it performs like a high end model.

Less than 30 days ancient …. 3 fan belts have broken on the vacuum! One wonders if it can go 30 days without a replacement part.

This is the best vacuum I have ever owned! The suction power is awesome and it moves very easily despite it’s heavy weight. I highly recommend this product, especially, if you are a pet owner, the pet hair tool is fabulous! It is a like a mini high powered vacuum that pulls even the most hard to remove fur from your furniture!

The canister is oh so simple to empty and the minor assembly that you have to do is super simple and quick. Had this baby place together in all of 5 minutes! Beyond doubt a steal and I would beyond doubt recommend this vacuum to everyone I know.

    Wanted to like it, but…
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I wanted to like this vacuum because it has all the basics right. It has the attachments you would expect, including a pet hair vacuum for the extension. It’s bagless and the canister is simple to empty and clean. The filters are also simple to remove and clean. It was cheap. It has excellent sucking power… at least at first.

No matter how much I cleaned the filters, this vacuum would not suck anymore. It only lasted about a year. I took apart the filters and made sure they were spotless. I didn’t see any other blockages or stuck parts. It just lost all its power! I even took it in for repair, and they said it was worthy of the dumpster.

If you have a lot of pet hair, don’t get this vacuum. I’d only recommend it if you want something cheap and you don’t vacuum that often. Otherwise, get a nice, heavy-duty vacuum from someone like Riccar.

Less than a year before it failed.
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought my vacuum around this time last year from a local Wal Mart in a small town in Wisconsin. Out of the box it worked like a charm, picked up the hair from my Rottweiler/Mastiff mix (longer hair, oddly enough), my Doberman (shorter, pointy and rigid hair that got stuck in every fabric) and my kitten (longer, softer hair) without issue. The power brush worked well and I honestly loved the auto rewind cord – so much so, I look for that in every vacuum now and wonder why all vacuums don’t have that as standard.

The first thing I noticed that went incorrect was that the power brush started to lose suction, I checked the hose, no blockage, the internal connector, no blockage, so I thought it was either the power brush itself (although it is a simple device) or the motor was already wearing out. Had I not used the power brush attachment, I never would’ve realized that my vac was losing suction power in the first place. I cleaned out the filter, I even went without the filter to eliminate all possible variables, still, the vacuum lost power. –Mind you, this was 6 months into owning it.

So today (30 August 09) my vacuum finally lost pretty much all suction. No filter/or with filter, hoses cleaned, canister empty, all belts golden, no obstructions in the roller, and I can smell the motor wearing out. It has been going very downhill for the last week. It really just moves pet hair around my carpet now (yes, the carpet is low, and the ride height of the vacuum is set correctly).

When this vacuum worked, it worked very, very well. But it only lasted less than a year. Of note though, I did place this vac through its paces, so maybe it’s just not fantastic for every other day – heavy pet hair use?

A fantastic vacuum for the money
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This thing picks up a lot more than my ancient vac did. It’s relatively silent, I don’t have any complaints except stuff seems to get caught in the upper part of the canister, instead of all going to the lower part like it should. I like the retractable cord and the bagless features. Very nice machine.

Fantastic routine, but questionable build quality
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I just received this vacuum yesterday and was very impressed at the amount of debris removed from the carpet I tried it on. My concern is that it does not appear to be built very well. The one screw that holds the handle onto the body is small. The instructions state to attach it “securely”. I have assembled and built many items over the years and I be with you the substance of not stripping a screw (especially one that attaches to plastic). The problem is that it was impracticable to tell when it had bottomed out. I suspect it is stripped and I will need to replace it with a larger diameter screw in the near future. The levers that turn the vacuum on and off and release the handle to tilt are not very sturdy. The mechanism for releasing the bottom hatch on the dirt cup also inspires small confidence. I know I shouldn’t expect it to be buiult like a tank at $100, but a few metal parts at key hinge locations that get heavy use would really improve the longevity of the unit without adding too much to the manufacture costs. I hope I turn out to be incorrect and this lasts for a few years, which is all I really expect anyway. If I can get 5 years out of a $100 vacuum, I figure I’m getting my money’s worth.

    Not worth
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I am a person who trust the user reviews and blindly buy the product if it has excellent reviews. But that turned incorrect on this product. I wonder how people gave 5 star rating for this product. It doesn’t solve the purpose at all. The motor is so weak. You can hear its struggle as you go it. And obviously the suction force is very feeble. The only pros is the auto-rewind feature, which is really excellent. I had an Eureka prior to this, which was very powerful with self-thrust, and a knob to switch between hose and floor. It is better to have both separate so the suction power would be fantastic. It wasn’t expensive either, I don’t remember the price but it was nearly close to this hoover’s price. I wish I bought the Eureka again. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

I read about this cleaner before I bought it and the opinions of others were right, for the price, it has the best suction I have veteran, I cleaned carpets that had just been cleaned with another cleaner (really another Hoover!), but not near the cleaner this is. I recommend it highly! The wind-up cord is really clean!

    Fantastic deal
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Believe all the positive reviews. I have a dog and two cats and was convinced I needed an expensive top-of-the-line vacuum that I can’t afford right now, and bought the Hoover as a stopgap. Anything more expensive would have been a waste of money because this is a fantastic vacuum.

The 5507 takes an nearly scary amount of dirt out of my carpets, and the handheld attachment power brush has restored my favorite chair, which also happens to to the favorite chair of both cats. It runs quietly enough that the dog isn’t terrified (she’s not a fan, but she doesn’t feel the need to hide). The auto-retract feature is a nice touch, it is light enough to carry on the stairs, and the suction was strong enough to pick up a mess of spilled dry pinto beans the other day.

My only complaint, and this is minor, is that the handheld tube can be a small awkward if you have a lot of furniture to deal with, but I don’t reckon that it is any worse than most other vacuums I’ve dealt with.

    Overall a fantastic deal.

    Missing part, horrible Hoover service
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Right out of the box it was missed a crucial component (the only screw required). Dealing with Hoover’s customer service was an absolute nightmare. They never sent me an email response when I submitted a request through their online form. Their phone hours are ludicrous (closed by 2:30pm PST). And their customer service number is a long-distance number. They have an 800 number, but it’s only for automated stuff that doesn’t resolve anything.

Not Amazon’s fault. Hoover just sucks.

    This vacuum really sucks!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I used this vacuum to clean my apartment- which was by all accounts already clean before I went in… it scooped up so much dirt! The attachments are fantastic, I use the brush to clean out the inside of the canister and the filters (no power, of course) and the other one to clean mattresses and other furniture. Never having to buy bags is beyond doubt a excellent thing, no extra waste to the environment and no extra cost for you! It’s fantastic never having to wonder how full the canister is- you can see into it and determine when it’s a excellent time to empty. Another fantastic feature is that the cord has an automatic rewind, which makes the vacuum MUCH simpler to place away and to go from room to room. Only con is that the bottom part continues to rotate when you use the attachments, make SURE you lay this baby down so that you don’t ruin your carpet while cleaning smaller or more upright areas. All in all, fantastic value for the money!

    So far so fantastic.

I’ve had this vacuum for a month and have used it several times and I really like it. I have a 900 s/f condo with 50% split of tile/carpet and it has been more than ample. The suction is really excellent and the one touch dumping of the dirt is extremely nice. If there is one negative it is an extremely minor one in that the hand attachment which is attached to the top front of the unit comes off by itself with minor bumping.

For the price you get a excellent bang for your buck.

    Garbage
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
    Here’s a what I don’t like about this vacuum:

    1) you can’t turn off the rotating brush; that makes it impracticable to use on hard floors, unless you wear ear plugs; if you set the brush for high carpet, the noise will drop but you won’t clean anything either. Also it has a tendency to grab cables which happen to be nearby.

    2) it’s insanely noisy. If you live in a condo, all your neighbors will delight in the sound.

    3) it’s suction power is honestly weak

    4) if you need to reach high above cabinets and fridge to vacuum the dust, this vacuum cleaner is not the tool

    5) the power cord constantly gets under the vacuum brush; you have to hold it in your hand to avoid this. Or you can try vacuuming without a back and forth motion of the vacuum.

So save your money and buy something else. This is a waste. It’s a low end useless tool.

We bought two of these vacuums – one for our daughter and one for ourselves. This vacuum is a fantastic buy. It does a wonderful job on pet hair and day to day dirt. I was very surprised at how many times I had to empty it since our older vacuum, a hoover wind tunnel, seemed to be doing a excellent job. My only complain after a few weeks of use would be a wish for a longer cord. I really like the auto-rewind feature and the ese of emptying the cannister. Would beyond doubt recommend.

    A Thousand Kudos!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Many thanks to the prior reviewers who steered me to buying this vacuum! I had narrowed the search to two models; but the two reviewers that mentioned the other model bursting into FLAMES and melting made choosing the Hoover 5507-900 a no-brainer. After trying it for the first time I thought of the reviewer who’s clean-freak mother-in-law bought one after seeing what her more expensive vacuum left behind. HOLY CRIPES! She wasn’t kidding!!! I’ve waited a month using it before writing this review. Every time I use it I’m unquestionably grossed out by what it removes from our carpets; the canister is full every time; and I clean the tank outside, with a hose, after knocking all the SERIOUS AMOUNT of dust, dog dander, and who-knows-what out of the HEPA filter first. This might seem excessive, but those of you blessed with allergies will be with you. The only down-side is the low position where the cord exits the body; it makes it too simple to run over the cord. But for this kind of clean at this price, I’ll willingly live with that.

    Junk
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Wife bought this vacuum about a year ago. It has sucked since day 1. Despise it. Piece of junk. Smells like burning rubber, no suction, belts burn out constantly (probably why it smells like it is on fire all the time), shoots dust particles into the atmosphere leading to increased global warming (o.k. kidding about the “contributes to global warming”). Wish this vacuum cleaner had never entered into my life. Avoid.

Worked well, the only 5 times it really worked.
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We were pleased with this vacuum, which we chose to buy instead of the usual $30 cheap vacuum. We needed some serious action to fight pet hair, and this vacuum indicated that it was a fantastic choice for pet hair.

Sorry to say, after trying the vacuum 4 or 5 times, it simply stopped working. Would no longer power on. We took it to a Hoover repair shop, but since we had lost the receipt, they were unable to honor the warranty. And since this model was rumor has it that produced well over a year ago (and just sat in warehouses in the meantime), they could no longer honor it by simply seeing when it was manufactured.

The repair guy took a look at the vacuum, and said it was not worth fixing if we had to pay for it out of pocket, taking into account the buy price. Furthermore, he tells us that these bagless vacuums commonly break very quickly (he’s seen many come in having been used only 5-10 times), especially when they’ve vacuumed up a lot of small particles, like dust or that scented carpet powder. He highly not compulsory that we always buy a bagged vacuum instead, which, from his experience as a repairman, last much longer.

We’re pretty mad that we basically threw away well over $100 on a product that broke straight away. Last time I ever buy a Hoover; their ancient reputation as a top brand is clearly not right anymore.
